Introducing... Tommy!

About Tommy:

Tommy has had a very sheltered life and as much as he absolutely adores people, he is extremely fearful of the world.

Tommy started his life as a tiny pup growing up in a kill shelter in Romania. He was lucky enough to be reserved and pulled out into a private shelter, this is the reason he is not so fearful of people unlike many of our other dogs.

Being in the private shelter, Tommy was looked after but his days were spent living outside on a chain with his siblings meaning that he has never seen anything of the world. When he first arrived, he was scared to go anywhere, into the halls, down the corridor, he was so fearful of anything that he did not know. Over time, he has learnt that there is nothing to worry about and now he bounds around the rescue a very happy dog and asking for cuddles from anyone that he passes on his way.

All of Tommy's siblings have now been adopted yet poor Tommy hasn't had a single enquiry. He is by far, the most cuddliest of all of them and he literally just melts into your arms and takes in every second of love that he possibly can.

If you want a dog that will give you endless snuggles, Tommy is definitely the boy for you!

With other dogs:

Tommy has shown that he is very playful with other dogs as soon as he trusts them, sometimes this is instant, and others it may take a couple of meets.

Unfortunately, we have seen Tommy guard food from the other dogs and if the dogs outside are really winding him up, he has redirected onto other dogs too, so for this reason, we are looking for a home for him as an only dog.

He could enjoy the company of visiting dogs in the future so long as food / treat time is managed correctly.

With cats:

Due to the incidents we have seen with dogs over food / redirecting, we haven't tested Tommy with cats as we don't believe it would be safe for him to share a home with one.

Moderate-high energy

Tommy shows to be a dog with moderate energy levels. This could have the potential to increase once he is settled into a home

3-4 hours

Tommy will need any time alone to be built up slowly. He has never been alone before (without another dog) and used to get very worried when he first arrived although he has massively improved and is quiet in his kennel most of the time these days

Requires further lead training

Tommy is only just starting to learn how to walk on a collar and a lead. He is very scared of his surroundings and this is something his adopter will need to work on with him to slowly build his confidence with lots of positive reinforcement training.

Training required

Tommy doesn't yet know any basic commands / manners. This will need to be worked on with positive reinforcement training methods only once he has settled into his forever home.
