Introducing... Tommy!
About Tommy:
Tommy has had a very sheltered life and as much as he absolutely adores people, he is extremely fearful of the world.
Tommy started his life as a tiny pup growing up in a kill shelter in Romania. He was lucky enough to be reserved and pulled out into a private shelter, this is the reason he is not so fearful of people unlike many of oIntroducing... Tommy!ur other dogs.
Being in the private shelter, Tommy was looked after but his days were spent living outside on a chain with his siblings meaning that he has never seen anything of the world. We struggle to move Tommy anywhere other than his kennel and our fields. He is scared of everything - shelving, our desk, chairs. We are working hard to help build Tommy's confidence but it will be a slow process.
Tommy does get very worried when he is a left alone however he has recently shown signs of improvement. When he first arrived, he would have meltdowns any time he was not with his siblings Grace and Molly but now he is more than happy to spend his time with staff / volunteers instead. He can be very vocal when left alone but is hugely food motivated and so can be left to keep himself occupied for short amounts of time with food enrichement / long lasting treats.
With other dogs:
Tommy has shown that he is very playful with other dogs as soon as he trusts them, sometimes this is instant, and others it may take a couple of meets.
Unfortunately, we have seen Tommy guard food from the other dogs and if the dogs outside are really winding him up, he has redirected onto other dogs too, so for this reason, we are looking for a home for him as an only dog.
He could enjoy the company of visiting dogs in the future so long as food / treat time is managed correctly.
Moderate-high energy
Tommy has shown us that in future he could become an active / potentially high-energy dog. He will require a family that is prepared to give him the exercise he needs
2hrs
Tommy will need any time alone to be built up slowly. He has never been alone before (without another dog) and he does get very worried. If Tommy gets stressed being alone, he will cry and howl.
Requires further lead training
Tommy is only just starting to learn how to walk on a collar and a lead. He is very scared of his surroundings and this is something his adopter will need to work on with him to slowly build his confidence with lots of positive reinforcement training.
Training required
Tommy doesn't yet know any basic commands / manners. This will need to be worked on with positive reinforcement training methods only once he has settled into his forever home.
